Our long-term plan for living out of a van is to mount solar panels on the roof to charge a 12V Deep Cycle battery and make the whole thing a self sustained RV. But for now, since we're dead broke, here's what we have so far...
The Shadow Puppet & I decided on a 2014 Ford Transit Connect XL to dirtbag out of this Summer.
Time to get creative...
Gut The Van; A strong foundation from which to construct an adventure lies in simplicity |
Obviously we need a kindle, but our budget didn't afford us a fancy E-reader...
Just an old upside down book shelf. |
My neighbor dropped by with some power tools.
Thanks Ron! |
The 2x4 is attached to the shelf by two screws, which allows the bed frame to be easily removed.
Easy Removal proved itself a convenient feature when I later installed floor mats.
Floor mats aren't just good for reducing wear & tear and providing comfort... They fit like puzzles and make the van look like a traveling day care. Cool! |
Reinforced the 2x4's to provide a stable base for a sliding 1/2" thick table. |
The sliding table is guided along two rails.
Securing the 3/4" plywood to the frame finishes the bed.
An improvised design for securing shelf items while on the road.
This old mop is a perfect table leg because it has an adjustable length (for uneven terrain).
The low profile preserves valuable storage space |
With a sturdy platform to boot' |
Welcome to the our humble abode...
Home Sweet Home. |
The Shadow Puppet Rides Shotgun. |
Bungee cords prevent shifting cargo. |
Let the adventures begin =D |
